Hello! My name is Kelsey, and I can't wait to get to know you.
To break the ice, I'll share a little about myself first!
Originally from Georgia, I moved to Texas to pursue my graduate degree and career as a therapist. I have a masters degree in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University, and I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Kennesaw State University. I am also a Certified 200 Hour Yoga Teacher (RYT # 409752).
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas (License Number 204171) and Colorado (MFT.0002459). My extensive therapeutic training in working with individuals, couples, and families informs my variety of approaches with clients to meet their specific needs. My specialties include Gottman-informed couples work, expertise in working with individuals diagnosed with autism, grief work for children and adults, and therapeutic intervention for addiction.
In my free time I enjoy hiking with my husband, walking and spending time with our dogs, running, yoga, and getting lost in a good book. Enough about me - hopefully this brief introduction gives me the opportunity to learn more about you!
Research shows that one of the most important therapeutic factors is the relationship between the client and the therapist. I intentionally take time to build rapport and earn each client's trust. I invite open dialogue about expectations, progress, and therapeutic boundaries. Through validation, encouragement, gentle challenging, and supportive listening, I consistently work to strengthen the therapeutic alliance in sessions.
I encourage my clients to speak up if at any point the therapeutic relationship doesn't feel right. "One size fits all" doesn't apply to therapists. If I'm not the best clinician for you, I'll be there to help you find the right fit!
My experience and education as a marriage and family therapist inform my systemic approach. I conceptualize each client within his/her contextual circumstances and relationships. Problems don't occur in a vacuum - they are intertwined with our relationships, health concerns, faith, culture, etc. I'll work with you to start connecting those dots as we redefine and work through what brought you to therapy.
You are the expert of your own life. I'm honored for the opportunity to walk along side you as you navigate these challenges and strive for growth. I'll use my knowledge, experience, and therapeutic interventions to guide you through this chapter of life. Together we will develop a plan to help you achieve relief and healing.
